See Grace Fly is a full length digital feature shot by Facing Ali filmmaker Pete McCormack. I worked on the titles in 2010 to bring the film to a new audience. The film is about a woman’s decent into dimensia spurred by a death in the family. As she spirals into a world of her own creation, Grace envisions an apocalyptic future and drafts up plans to build a doomsday device. I designed opening credits which pulled texture from technical blueprints drawn by the main character.
How do you sum up tape worm babies, zombie love, and a tribute to the elegantly grotesque Mario Bava? This multi-director horror feature needed an enveloping concept to communicate all of its pieces. In the horror genre, less is more and that is the approach we took here with subtle inferno and ashy effects. Trapped Ashes premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2006. »
As an independent music promoter, Abaca relies on high impact delivery for artist content. Abaca went with offbeat studios to develop an interactive piece that would showcase artist’s music, images, biography, video, and more, and be highly accessable. The result is a disc which is high quality, easy to navigate and highly cross platform. »
Adrian Robert Shaw’s 35mm short follows an eccentric man’s quest to fit in with the crowd. He begins to mimic the contents of a co-worker’s apartment piece by piece out of coardboard. Typographically the letters fall away, revealing a constructed reality. Motion came from the weightlessness of cardboard itself, and from a cardboard conveyor belt in the film. »
In 2002, offbeat studios collaborated in a research based partnership with Sony to explore the future of interactive media. Our case study revolved around sharing and viewing short films, delivered on a prototype Sony set top device.»
